Forms Presentation Clinic

NEW CLINIC SEPTEMBER 25th!! form kowkabany karate tampa testing ATA1 Forms Presentation ClinicAt Kowkabany’s Family Martial Arts Center in Tampa, Florida, we believe that the Songahm Taekwondo Forms, also known by the Korean term “poomsae”, are essential to our true art. In Karate, the forms are known as “katas”, and serve much the same purpose. Whether you want to improve your form before your next Rank Testing, prepare for an upcoming ATA Martial Arts tournament, or simply want to develop the finer points of presentation, this traditional martial arts clinic will be helpful. During this lesson, we will cover the following. We will spend a few minutes explaining the history and importance of the forms in traditional martial arts, and then we will work on the skills necessary to present your form with the mix of power and fluidity necessary to show the form the way it was intended to look. We will practice how to “enter the ring” in competition and on the testing floor, and we’ll cover the main attributes:   quality of the martial arts techniques;     focus and eye contact; speed, flow and timing;   and attitude, enthusiasm and intensity. While we would suggest knowing your entire form before taking this clinic, even those who haven’t learned all of their present form will still learn something by attending. We’ll also explain many different ways to practice the form on your own, as at the higher belt levels and in the more competitive divisions, you will want to spend extra time outside of your martial arts lessons practicing your form. This will also help to work on self-discipline and perseverance, two of our most important life skills. While this clinc is probably not appropriate for Tiny Tigers, it will be an excellent training session for Karate Kids and Adult Students. All Instructors are encourage to attend, and to participate if they so choose. This clinic will be held on Tuesday, September 25th, from 6:45 – 7:30 p.m. at our Tampa location! For those who are planning on testing in October or competing at the ATA Fall Nationals, this is an ideal training session to attend. We hope to see you there!
