Karate Kids can be tough to motivate early on a Saturday morning, but motivation and enthusiasm are synonymous with the teaching style of Mr. David Reed, who teaches our Saturday morning Karate Kids lessons in our Tampa, Florida location! This 2nd Degree Black Belt is an accomplished martial artist, an ATA Certified Trainer, a Dale Carnegie Certified Trainer, a Toastmasters Leadership Advisor, an Eagle Scout, the former President of the Rotary Club of Tampa, and a Certified Fitness Instructor! Would you believe he was also a Disc Jockey who was known as the “Ace of Spades” at rap/disco station KCAT while working the late night shift!! Mr. Reed was raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where he worked in the family grocery store learning the values of customer service, integrity and hard work. He started winning sales awards from an early age, from Stuckey’s Pecan Rolls for his Little League team to tickets for the PTA’s spaghetti dinner. Those skills served him well when he was Sales Rep of the year for Procter and Gamble in 1987. With a Master’s Degree in Business, he has also worked for Nabisco Foods, been a manager for Coca-Cola, and even worked with Mr. Michael Edgerley at Cott Beverage. After leaving his position at Catalina Marketing, Mr. Reed started his own consulting firm in 2009, Zebra 3 Investments and Performance Consulting. We are now working with him to utilize some of his professional experience in enhancing the success training we use in our Leadership Program. As an All State Defensive End and a Black Belt in Judo, Mr. Reed has been an advocate for physical fitness his entire life. He is a Triple Crown Florida State Champion in ATA Taekwondo, with titles in Sparring, Weapons and Forms. He and his wife, Kristen, are the parents of Katie, who is also a martial artist… she is currently an ATA Red Belt working towards her 1st Degree Black Belt. If you are ever around Katie, you will see that enthusiasm and aggressive sparring skills must be a genetic trait! Mr. Reed is also the “father” to two German Shepherds and a Labrador retriever; and in his spare time he loves to hunt, fish and cheer for the Arkansas Razorbacks. He and his family attend the Idlewild Baptist Church. We are very blessed and thankful to have Mr. Reed as part of Team Kowkabany’s Instructor Staff. In addition to his martial arts and professional skills, he is also quick with a joke and always willing to help others to achieve their best. Hopefully, you now know a little bit more about this enthusiastic Martial Arts Instructor who always leaves our students (and their parents) smiling at the end of class.
