Chief Master DK gives some final tips to the board breaking group at the end of the clinic. While breaking boards is fun, they are designed to measure the quality of your technique and power, as well as accuracy, under stress. Students are reminded to practice regularly on targets to develop proper technique.

A young KFMA purple belt successfully breaking with his side kick. The color of the boards indicates the amount of power it takes to break them, with lower level boards being equal to a 1" pine board, and the higher levels being equal to 2.5 times that amount.

KFMA teen blue belt lines up the board with her belt, allowing her to work on her accuracy. By always lining up the board before attempting to break (with the belt, chest, nose), setting the boards properly under the stress of testing is second-nature.

At KFMA, our red belts are required to successfully perform board breaks with kicks at face level as part of their rank testings.

KFMA regularly offers free clinics to our students to improve specialty martial arts skills. This group came together to practice board breaking.
