KFMA Training Videos – September to December

KFMA Training Videos for our third testing cycle of the year will use our most advanced color belt Songahm Taekwondo Forms and Sparring Combinations! It’s an exciting time of the year for families who train together, as these forms truly showcase the beauty of the art of Taekwondo.

Please remember that these videos are not designed to teach you directly, they are designed to ASSIST you in your training and with memorization! Before working on your new techniques at home, please make sure that your Certified Instructors have already introduced the new techniques to you in class. Learning the proper techniques in class first will ensure that you can create good habits for loading and execution as you develop muscle memory.

There are four distinct sections of training materials below, which are broken out by rank groups from lowest (White Belt) to highest (Red Belt). Find the section that correlates to your current rank to see the videos that will cover the material you will be working on in class.

Sparring Combinations are typically the easiest to learn, and they are designed to be performed with fluid motion, simulating actual sparring. For your forms, go through them one section at a time… pause and go back… learn each segment with quality techniques.

The idea is not to see how fast you can learn the form, but how well you can perform the moves. Just learning the pattern is like learning a dance, but being able to perform with focus and intensity, showing power in the execution… that’s what makes it martial in nature.

Each time you practice the forms, try to work on a different attribute. While memorization is the one most students focus on, also consider the following: power, proper (perfect) technique, focus, balance, timing, eye contact, rhythm/fluidity and intensity. It takes many hours of practice to truly master a form, and it takes continuous feedback from your Instructor.

In addition to improving your martial arts skills, the Songahm Taekwondo Forms do amazing things in training your brain and to improve the speed of your thinking. For more info, see this article: https://teamkowkabany.com/a-workout-for-your-brain-from-taekwondo-forms/
