KFMA May to August Training Videos
KFMA MAY TO AUGUST TRAINING VIDEOS
KFMA May to August training videos will provide our students with reference videos for practicing at home, enhancing your in-school training and progress. While these Taekwondo videos are helpful with memorization, please keep in mind that you should first learn the techniques from your instructors. This will help as you build muscle memory with proper technique.
The May to August training videos cover material that will be used in our Rank Testings in June and August, and they are broken down into four groups of color belts: White Belts; Orange and Yellow Belts; Camo, Green and Purple Belts; and Blue, Brown and Red Belts.
We just finished working on the life skill of self-discipline, which is “the bridge between goals and accomplishments” (St. Teresa of Calcutta). It takes self-discipline to practice outside of class, but doing so will allow you to learn your Songahm forms and your sparring combinations more quickly, which will allow you to work on polishing your techniques during class.
We suggest you start with the material by going through the moves slowly, as this allows you to work on clean technique and precision. Speed and power will come later, once you are comfortable with the material and have the moves memorized. Details are important!
SPARRING COMBINATIONS:
Once you have memorized the combinations, then start practicing for fluidity without losing the integrity of the techniques.
FORMS:
The quality of the techniques and precision of the stances are the first things to work on, once you begin to memorize the pattern. Hand techniques and kicks should all have proper loads and chambers, and techniques should travel on a precise path during execution. As the form becomes easier, you can start to work on fluid motion, and hand-foot timing. You should also be aware of your ‘focus,’ looking in the direction of your target and not at your feet. This will take practice! The art of taekwondo is found in the forms, and with enough practice, these can be performed well by students of all ages. The proper attributes of a Songahm form include proper technique and memorization, fluid motion and rhythm, eye contact and focus, speed and balance, and eventually power and intensity.

When you practice at home, it allows your instructors to spend more time polishing your techniques, and allows them time to teach you the more advanced attributes in your class. Class is also more enjoyable when you show up ready to learn new material!
We have a variety of training articles throughout our blog, and many of these can help you with the finer points of certain techniques. The side kick is found in almost every Songahm form we teach, and is first taught at the White Belt level.
