KFMA Prepares Teens for College

KFMA Prepares Teens for College

KFMA prepares teens for college by providing them with a solid set of life skills including self-discipline, confidence, and focus. Students also learn goal-setting skills as they transition through the ranks of traditional Taekwondo on their path to Black Belt, skills that correlate directly to achieving better grades in school and helping them to stand out from the crowd when applying for college. During their training, teens will discover gifts and talents they never realized they had, and they will learn how to develop them.

KFMA Teaches Self-discipline

As teenagers begin their training at KFMA, they are taught the basic physical skills of Songahm Taekwondo including kicks, strikes, blocks and footwork. As most students have little to no knowledge of the martial arts when they begin training, they must practice these techniques repeatedly until they develop muscle memory. Training in class under certified Master Instructors is an important part of this training, and then students begin to practice at home. This is the same concept used by the school systems, with homework to facilitate learning in the classroom.

KFMA Prepares Teens with Goal-Setting

Teens learn goal-setting skills by knowing what is required at each rank in order to advance to the next belt level, from sparring combinations to traditional Songahm Taekwondo forms, as well as sparring and board breaking at the advanced ranks. Knowing in advance what is required, and being taught how to master the skills that will be required at their rank testings, allows the students to set a clear training path as they progress through the ATA belt system.

KFMA Teaches Focus

Just like adults, teens are faced with numerous distractions from technology and the media that can keep them from achieving the goals that are most important in life. Screen time for teens is at an all-time high, and that will bring more challenges in the future. For this reason, it is vital that teens learn to focus their time and their energy on the goals that mean the most. Training in the martial arts allows students to step away from everything else in life for one class at a time, and to focus solely on their own training. In addition to the great physical workout, students are learning self-defense skills and are spending time with like-minded students who are working towards the same goals. Learning to focus in Taekwondo class translates to better focus in the world of academics.

KFMA Prepares Teens for College with Confidence

As teens begin to achieve their new ranks, they begin to develop confidence in their own physical and mental abilities. Building this confidence in an art that was so new to them in the beginning, encourages them to have the confidence to achieve in other areas of their lives. As they progress through the ranks, they will develop leadership skills, and they will see the impact they can have on others by serving as positive role models for junior students.

KFMA Teens are Held Accountable

From the very beginning of their training, all students in our school are encouraged to bring in their report cards for the Master Instructors to review. This allows for praise when the students excel, and encouragement when students need to put forth more effort in their academics. Before students are approved for testing for their next rank, they must also receive permission from their parents, and their performance in school is part of that decision. Not every student will make straight A’s or even the honor roll, however, all are expected to do their best with the talents they have been given.
