KFMA TAEKWONDO TRAINING VIDEOS — MAY TO AUGUST 2025
Among our core KFMA life skills are perseverance and self-discipline, and using these skills while you work with the KFMA Songahm Taekwondo training videos below will help you to make faster progress with your in-school training. St. Teresa of Calcutta put it in clear terms, “Discipline is the bridge between Goals and Accomplishments.” With that in mind, use your self-discipline to create a habit of practicing at home!
The videos below are broken out by rank groups as follows to prepare for the June and August Testings:
*White Belts
* Orange and Yellow Belts
* Camo, Green and Purple Belts
*Blue, Brown and Red Belts
NOTE: These videos are designed to enhance your classroom training, but FIRST you will need to learn the specific techniques before you start practicing them at home. This helps to ensure that you are developing the proper muscle memory in loading, chambering and executing your strikes, blocks and kicks.
Start by going slowly through the moves, working on precision and clean technique, then you can work on increasing your speed and power. Details are important in becoming an outstanding martial artist.
SPARRING COMBINATIONS: Once you have learned the combinations, focus on performing them fluidly without losing the quality of the techniques. Ideally, the speed and fluid motion will be very similar to that found in traditional free-sparring!
FORMS: Precise stances and high-quality techniques are the first part of developing your form. This includes proper loading of your hand techniques, and foot position and chambering in your kicks. Techniques should have a precise starting position, a specific path/direction of motion, and an ending position. As you progress with your form, it should become more fluid and powerful; then, pay attention to your hand-foot timing, as well as keeping your head up to look directly at your ‘target.’ Traditional forms are the true essence of the art of taekwondo and can be performed at all ranks and by all ages.
Tips on Practicing
Basic Hand Techniques
First, you will need to understand the exact beginning and ending position of each technique, as well as the direction of the block or strike. You should also note the proper positioning of the hand (tight fingers, straight wrists, etc).
Taekwondo Kicks
When practicing kicks, in order to keep your knees safe from injury, you’ll want to play close attention to pivoting, the proper chamber of the kicks, and to strike with the correct part of the foot (instep, heel, ball). Once you have developed the quality of the kick, then you can start to work on developing your speed and power.
Traditional Stances
When you work on the stances found in your form, you’ll want to consider these three elements: first is the proper foot position, second if the weight shift, and third is proper body alignment. For a quick review of the basic stances, please see this article: https://teamkowkabany.com/practicing-traditional-karate-stances/
The proper attributes of a ‘perfect’ Songahm Taekwondo Form include:
Power – Timing – Proper Technique – Speed – Balance – Eye Contact – Focus – Rhythm/Fluid Motion – Memorization – and Intensity!
One final note: Please don’t practice material above your rank, as the techniques build upon each other over time.
