KFMA TRAINING VIDEOS – JANUARY – APRIL 2023 – ALL COLOR BELTS
Congratulations on finding your way to our supplemental training videos to help you practice at home! Even a few minutes per day reviewing your sparring combinations and forms will go a long way to help you with building muscle memory with your new techniques. The material shown below will help all of our Color Belt students to prepare for the first two testing cycles in 2023.
The videos below are broken out into four separate rank groups:
*White Belts
* Orange and Yellow Belts (two sets of videos, one for Jan/Feb and one for March/April)
* Camo, Green and Purple Belts
*Blue, Brown and Red Belts
Please bear in mind that if you don’t understand a technique, please consult with your Instructor first to ensure that you are performing it properly. Having to relearn a technique will slow down your progression. We want to make sure that you develop the proper habits for loading/chambering and executing each technique. The practice at home will then reinforce the techniques that you are learning in our school from your Certified Master Instructors.
Keep in mind, the quality of your practice makes a big difference…Pay attention to the details and practice with perfect technique first, then you can work on speed and power. Excellence is not a single act; it is a habit! Don’t get frustrated. Some techniques may appear simple to understand, but it takes time for the body to learn to move fluidly with precision and power.
When practicing your Sparring Combinations, your first goal should be to learn the basic techniques in the combination. Then progress to refining the techniques so they can be performed quickly without losing the integrity/power of the technique. The final step is to be able to perform these fluidly as they are designed to simulate actual free sparring.
Your forms practice will be different than your sparring combinations, as the focus is on the quality of each individual technique—this includes proper loads and hand positions, as well as the proper foot position and weight shift in each stance. As the pattern of the form gets easier, more attention should be given to hand-foot timing and specific target heights. The final version of your form should also include fluid motion/transitions, eye contact, power and intensity.
Please DO NOT practice material above your rank, as the techniques build upon each other over time. If you have questions about specific techniques or material, please ask your instructor.
